So much more than a wedding magazine, white mag is about ‘the day’ and all the days after.

“For brides and grooms, our pages are a wedding mecca, crafted to inspire them to create a wedding day that celebrates their story with integrity, joy, beauty and wonder. Presenting everything from real weddings, bridal fashion and planning inspiration to meaningful couple questionnaires and stories from those that have been there before. Best of all, when your wedding launches you into the uncharted skies of marriage, we go with you, bringing husbands and wives stories of love and life – personal narratives of laughter, romance, triumph, oftentimes tragedy, but always hope and joy! white celebrates it all with you. We are here to challenge you, to laugh and cry with you, to always point you home. And we’ll be here as you discover that home is a person, not a destination.”

white is here to help you create a marriage as beautiful as your
wedding day.

Let’s chat with Carla who publishes white magazine alongside her husband, Luke. She is the Editor and Creative Director of the magazine, responsible for establishing the direction and upholding its vision and purpose.

What is the best part of your job?
It is so incredible to be able to do something you love, and for that I feel extremely humbled. I’m truly honoured to have a place in so many homes—something I don’t take lightly in any way. I feel like it’s almost an open invitation to share a couple’s journey. I won’t lie, I find the creative side very rewarding … challenging sometimes for sure, but super exciting. It’s more than creating a pretty book—it’s finding a way to intertwine images and words that reflect our passion for beauty and relationships. Take me on set, making a mood board or designing a feature and you’ll see me come to life.

Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.
The magazine has been around for over 10 years now, but I think it was just before the birth of my third baby that we started asking lots of questions! We had loads of ‘why’ questions which led us to revising our processes in producing a publication. On a practical level, we knew that with our small team of three and two of us having babies that we couldn’t keep doing things in the same way. This meant that visually we pulled things right back, simplified and embraced negative space more than ever. The ‘why’ questions led us to our purpose. I wasn’t interested to just keep doing what we’ve been doing! We loved white in every way but realised the bit that kept us going was the humanity side of things. We desperately wanted to connect with our readers and offer them more than just a magazine full of pretty inspiration; we wanted to connect on a much deeper emotional level that took them on a journey from their engagement through to marriage.

What advice would you give to aspiring small business owners?
Anyone who owns their own business will know the complete investment that it takes to keep things on the road emotionally, physically, mentally and financially. Worth it, totally, but in all honesty the impact to our family has been real on all fronts. I’ve come to realize there is no such thing as work/life balance but more of a juggling act, and when you love what you do it’s hard for it not to play a massive part in your life to the point where it doesn’t so much feel like work … you live and breathe it.

What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
I think connecting with the lovely ladies behind BFW and hearing their hearts for what they are doing, we feel like their hearts and passion is something we really connect with. Yes we all love a beautiful celebration to start a couple off on their marriage journey, but we share a passion to encourage solid marriages. Amazing! We love this so much.
