It is with great pleasure (and mouths watering!) that we introduce all of you to our sweet friends at Malvi. They are sweet in every since of the word – personality and taste – and we invite you to learn a little bit more about their story. The yummy photos speak for themselves.

Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career. 

My husband and I moved to Atlanta on March 1st, 2013. We had been making Malvis for friends for a while, and we thought “let’s put this marshmallow idea out there and see what people think.” Paris filmed a quick video of me in our backyard, we staged a photo shoot on the porch using bricks and a cast iron skillet as props (we just moved – we didn’t even have plates!), and we posted Malvi on Kickstarter. The campaign was a success and allowed us to purchase an oven and 20-quart mixer. More importantly, encouragement and rave reviews from our backers gave me courage to devote myself to marshmallow mastery and to make Malvi a legitimate business

List three of your favorite small businesses (and why they’re on your list).

A dozen answers come to mind. The creative community in Atlanta is off the charts, and behind every business is a person or team completely dedicated to their craft and to making the world more beautiful by sharing it. Keep your eyes on Atlanta, because all of that joy, synergy, and productivity is going to create a revolution! Since this is such a hard question, I’m going to cheat a little on my answers:

First, I have to give a shout out to The Beehive and The Spotted Trotter, the first stores to carry Malvis. Malene Davis (The Beehive) and Kevin Ouzts (Spotted Trotter) tirelessly work to create the best product experience for their customers, and they intentionally invest in other local businesses. Stopping by for my weekly deliveries is dangerous. I always want to walk out with an armload of charcuterie or a new necklace!

Second, I’m a big fan of Love Gives Way. It’s a cooperative of wedding vendors dedicated to fighting sex trafficking. Couples who want their wedding day to have a positive impact can choose from Love Gives Way vendors, and a portion of their check goes towards the cause. We’re excited to partner up and help make a difference.

Finally, my most favorite business in the Atlanta area is La Taqueria Mestizo. It’s a bright, friendly, fun Mexi-Tex restaurant in Cumming, GA. Weekend breakfast is phenomenal, and I’ve never seen a business where so many customers are genuine friends of the owners. Yes, it’s my family’s restaurant (I told you I had to cheat!), but even if I weren’t married to the owner’s brother it would still be my favorite.

What has been your favorite part of The NotWedding experience?

Part of The NotWedding’s mission is to encourage healthy marriages beyond the wedding day, which is a surprisingly absent focus for much of the wedding industry. Not only did The NotWedding put on a ridiculously fun, beautiful, exciting event (did you catch that surprise engagement?), it also reminded me and everyone in the room who heard Eric and Jaime’s vows how incredibly deep and necessary absolute devotion, a good sense of humor, and deep love is to a thriving marriage.
