“Marriage has taught us so much through the good times and the bad, but our love for each other has only grown.” Taylor and Logan met at Midnight Rodeo in Austin during their freshman year of college, and there was an immediate and undeniable connection between them. They knew pretty quickly that they wanted to get married, and sure enough, two years later they were saying their vows. Taylor and Logan just celebrated their first anniversary in May, but are already excited to do it all again. How sweet are they?!

What is “your song” and why?
Our song is “Forever Like That” by the amazing singer-songwriter Ben Rector. When we first started dating, I had no idea who Ben Rector was but Logan loved his music. My first birthday that we celebrated together, Logan took me to a Ben Rector concert in Austin. I was an immediate fan of his music and the two of us had a blast. During that first concert, Ben said he wanted to play a new song that he had just finished writing, and he wanted our feedback. That song was “Forever Like That”. The lyrics, the melody, and the love that was displayed in that song spoke to Logan and I deeply. We left that concert with our hearts joyful and filled! After Logan had proposed, we were trying to think of what song we should have our first dance to, and I remembered Ben Rector’s song. I looked for it every where, but it wasn’t on any of his albums, and I couldn’t remember the name of it to search it online. I knew it would be the perfect song if I could only find it! Later we found out that Ben Rector was going to be doing a mother concert in Austin, and we immediately bought tickets to go. Again, we had such a blast at that concert; laughing, singing along to all his songs, and more. Towards the end of the concert, Ben said he wanted to sing a song that specifically was written for his wife. And he began to play “Forever Like That”. Immediately, my eyes filled with tears and my heart leapt in my chest. I think from that moment on the two of us just knew that was our song. As Ben played that song, Logan and I danced in the midst of the crowd.
What was the most unique part of your engagement story?
I absolutely love telling this! It makes me blush and my heart melt everytime. So here is goes….
Logan and I were planning on going and visiting his parents in Katy that Saturday. He told me what we were doing was a surprise and that I just needed to dress cute. That Saturday morning he picked me up and took me to breakfast. Breakfast has always been something that we enjoyed doing together, just us time, and we hadn’t done it in a while. After breakfast, his dad calls and says that he and Logan’s mom have to go out of town for an emergency business trip, and this weekend isn’t going to work out. I was so upset! I remember trying not to make a big deal out of it, but I was totally looking forward to going to Katy! Logan then suggested that we go hang out in Austin for the day instead since we were already up and dressed. Still disappointed, I somberly agreed.
We head to Austin and Logan says to me ‘Hey, I had a date planned for us next weekend. Do you want to do all of that stuff now?’ Since we really didn’t have another option, I agreed to go along with the day. He told me the first stop of the day was to the State Capitol (I’m a huge history nerd, so this was utter bliss for me). After a couple hours, Logan told me that we had an appointment so we should probably hit the road. He told me to close my eyes, he parked, got me out of the car, and told me to open my eyes….and I found that we were standing in front of Anthropologie. I was utterly confused. I didn’t even know Logan knew what Anthropologie was! He could tell I was confused and told me to wait till we got inside. When we walked in a woman met us at the door and told me that I had a private shopping appointment! WHAT?!? I looked at Logan, completely shocked at this point, and he just had this huge smile on his face. A man that treats his girlfriend to a private shopping appointment, ladies, that is a man to keep! So we followed this lady back to a private room that was filled with dresses all in my size, and champagne in the corner. For the next two hours I tried on dresses, sipped on champagne, and watched Logan grin from ear to ear.
After we left Anthropologie, Logan drove us toward the heart of Austin. He said that we were going to lunch, and I was unsure of where we were headed. All of a sudden he pulls up at the Driskill Hotel. This is mindblowing to me. Carhops open the door for us and valet our car and everything! Here I am, a poor college kid and I am being treated like an absolute queen! I just remember looking at Logan and being like ‘where the heck is this coming from?!?’ Logan just smiled and told me to enjoy the day…and believe me, I did!
Next we headed to this adorable nail salon, and I completely fought him on paying for me to get my nails done. I told him it was a waste of money and so stupid, but he insisted that I got my nails done. I just didn’t understand. So as I got my nails done, Logan literally just sat and watched me. He was all smiley and gushy, which I wasn’t understanding. I just thought he was treating me to a crazy day full of adventures! (I now understand why he was acting all cute! Hehe!)
After we got my nails done, he told me that he had dinner planned in Dripping Springs, which he said was about an hour drive. I’m the girl that immediately falls asleep in the car, so as we started driving he told me to go ahead and take a nap because he wanted me to be awake for the night. But before I completely fell asleep, the thought of him proposing did pop into my head. I kind of pondered it for a bit, but then asked God to take it from my mind because I didn’t want to be disappointed at the end of the night if he didn’t propose. After that, then I finally fell asleep. The next thing I knew, Logan was telling me to keep my eyes closed. I could only tell that we were on gravel…which was a challenge because I was definitely wearing heels. We walked a few paces, he stopped me, and told me to open my eyes, and I was looking at Mount Baldi. Mount Baldi is where Logan asked me to be his girlfriend, so it is a very special spot for us to visit. I looked at Logan and asked why we were there, because I thought we were headed towards Dripping Springs. He said ‘I accidentally took the wrong route to Dripping Springs, and it lead us to Wimberley. I thought we would stop here since we have some time to kill!’ I am directionally challenged, so I didn’t know, but apparently Wimberley is the complete opposite direction of Dripping Springs!
We start walking up the steps of Mount Baldi, which is a very long hike. Logan is behind me and I am grinning and bearing it in my heels. As I come up the last two steps to come up on the peak of the mountain, I notice that there is a mass of people quietly staring at me. My initial thought was ‘oh my goodness, we are intruding on something and we need to leave right now.’ But then I start to recognize faces…. It wasn’t until I saw my parents, Logan’s parents, and his sister that it clicked. The mass of people included all of our friends from college; some of the most influential people in our relationship. I see joyous, tearful, excited faces and I just lose it. Tears sprung out of my eyes and my heart lept out of my chest. I turned back to look at Logan and he is beaming. He leads me to the center of everyone, where I realize there are tons of candles, and a beautiful quilt, and tons of pictures of us. It was so beautiful. I didn’t know how to react! I remember looking back at Logan and his eyes were full of happy tears. I can’t even begin to explain how my heart felt at that moment. There are no words to fully express my emotions. I looked at Logan who began speaking the sweetest words. He told me that I had taught him so much about Jesus and how much he loved me. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I screamed ‘YES!!!’
That night was such a blur, but I remember celebrating with some of the most important people in our lives. I was so incredibly happy, and that joy has not even in the slightest worn off. Logan is the best man of earth, and God has completely blessed us. I pray every day that the love we have for one another will continue to grow with the guidance of Jesus.

What advice would you give an engaged couple?
We got married at an all-outdoor venue that is surrounded by acres of beautiful greenery, wildflowers and vineyards. Logan and I love the outdoors and it was always a dream of mine to get married outside. I was willing to gamble with mother nature on my wedding day! Well, little did I know that it was going to pour on May 24, 2014. As advice to engaged couples, I will say this: you’ve done all the planning, the craziness of getting everything together, and making sure that everything is perfect for this special day…now enjoy it. Don’t let the small things bug you. You’ve spent all this time, money and stress to make sure its a fun day, so HAVE FUN! If you are married at the end of the day, then the day has been successful. Like I said, it POURED on our ceremony and reception and we had to wait it out. But when I walked down that aisle, the only thing I cared about was getting to kiss that man standing that the other end of the aisle.
Another thing I would say, is take a moment every 30 minutes to stop everything and take a mental snap shot. Ya know how people say “I don’t remember a single thing about my wedding day….it went by so fast”? Don’t be like that! Remember everything! Look around every once and a while and really think about what’s going on around you. It’s such a special day; don’t let it rush by you.
