Sarah and Brent met at a wedding that she was photographing and he was attending. Soon into dating, Brent got a job in Georgia (far from Sarah back in Iowa!) After six months of long distance dating, Brent got down on one knee on Driftwood Beach in Jekyll Island. Another half year later, Sarah and Brent got married in Saint Simons, GA where they would soon call home. They missed the southwest so much, that they decided to sell all their belongings and move to Chicago this year.

We are so excited to celebrate Sarah and Brent as they renew their vows at The Big Fake Wedding Chicago, tomorrow night at Pinstripes. We hope to see you there!

What was the most unique part of your engagement story?

From him: I was leaving Iowa to go to Georgia on very short notice to help a chiropractor who had broken his hand. Sarah and I had casually looked at wedding rings online. I was having a very tough time understanding the type of ring that Sarah wanted as a wedding ring because what she was describing did not sound like a normal wedding ring to me. The morning that I left for Georgia I stopped by to say good by to Sarah and she slipped her grandmothers old wedding ring on to my key chain and a fake ring that looked a lot like what she wanted her wedding ring to look like. I did not realize it until i was on the road. While I was in Georgia I had a jeweler use the stones from her grandmothers wedding ring and design and create a ring similar to the ring that she wanted. I surprised her with the ring when I asked her to marry me on driftwood beach on Jekyll Island a few months later.

What was the absolute best memory from your wedding day?

From her: My favorite memory from our wedding day was after the ceremony when we had a private moment at the end of the aisle. Brent and I had the best, sweetest, teary hug and told each other “we did it!” and “I love you” and just hugged and my heart was the fullest it’s ever been.

What is the most awesome thing about marriage?

From her: Marriage is for love, but is also for so much more than love. Marriage is the ultimate way to refine ourselves by allowing another person to be a witness to our lives and our inner thoughts. A marriage relationship has a fascinating way of naturally showing us how to be whole, if we’re open to seeing it. It’s not because we are incomplete without the other, but the process of learning to love each other well while simultaneously learning to love ourselves well allows us to become more whole individuals.

What inspires you about each other?

From him: What inspires me most about Sarah is her willingness to really go after what she wants. Anything that Sarah wants she can make happen. She is 27 and has created two very successful businesses. She is always growing into a better person and she holds herself to a very high standard. Everyday I am inspired by her in the way she talks, the way she thinks, and the actions she puts out into the world. She is an amazing woman and I am the luckiest man alive to be able to spend my life with her.
