Matt grew up in the great state of Texas and Kristin is from central Massachusetts, but they met during the years after college while both living in Washington, DC.  Their wedding day was unlike any other you’ve probably heard of… Hurricane Irene hit Cape Cod and they had to completely replan their wedding the morning of – venue, vendors, bridal attendants and all. Despite all circumstances, it was still a beautiful and joyous celebration. Matt and Kristin just celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary and welcomed their first daughter into the world last year.

We are so excited to celebrate these two tonight at The Big Fake Wedding New England! Hope to see you there!

What was the absolute best memory from your wedding day?
On the morning of August 28, 2011, I woke up to a voicemail from our wedding venue confirming that Massachusetts had declared a state of emergency and that we would not be able to have our wedding there today. That morning, and the days leading up to our wedding weekend, had been full of such sadness, disappointment, and stress. Not only did we lose our venue, but we had multiple vendors and even bridal attendants cancel and we were left wondering if we would even still be able to get married that day. Our dear family and friends spent the entire morning calling people all across Cape Cod in search of a new venue, band, makeup artist, justice of the peace, ceremony musician, you name it… we basically had to rebook our entire wedding just hours before we were set to say “I do.” Our wedding was unlike anything we ever imagined – and while full of sadness, it was also full of great joy. I will never forget that moment when I started walking down toward the aisle toward Matt, in a room I had never seen before, but surrounded by wedding guests who had rallied for us and loved us so well. I was overwhelmed with gratitude. It was finally happening! We had been through a storm (literally!) leading up to that moment, but I was about to marry the love of my life and nothing was going to stop that.

What advice would you give an engaged couple?
Keep your eyes on the prize: your soon-to-be marriage and the life that you are preparing to share together. You will probably spend the majority of your time during these months (or years) of engagement thinking, planning, and talking about one very big day. Then, somewhere in the midst of that one very big day, you stumble into a union that will last for the rest of your lives (we hope). Engagement is the process of preparing for marriage, not simply preparing for a beautiful wedding ceremony and a killer party. So in the midst of all of your wedding planning to-do lists and vendor contracts and crafting days and countless other little details that are needed to pull off that one very big day, remember to take time to enjoy just being together, to learn more about one another, and to think/talk/dream together about your soon-to-be marriage. That is what this whole crazy wedding thing is all about, after all.
