Tell us a little bit about the story of Little White Box.
I moved to Charleston for photography school when I was 17 from a small town in West Virginia. I didn’t have any connections nor did I know anyone when I moved to the area. Once I graduated I focused on trying to start a business as a wedding photographer. The challenge was hard because there’s so many talented photographers in the area. I wanted to set myself apart and expand my business. I always loved VW cars and one random day I found the perfect VW bus in Carter Tennessee, which seemed like the perfect fit since my stepson has the same name. We fell in love with the bus the first time we saw it, and the rest is history. Now I get to enjoy owning a photography business and a photo booth business.
What is the best part of your job?
I most enjoy the happy moments that occur inside the photo bus. People are so full of love on their wedding day, and that really comes out in the pictures. I always enjoy seeing all the creative poses guests come up with for their photos. It is great to know that guests of all ages are able to come together and celebrate.
What advice would you give to aspiring small business owners?
Life is too short, so take the risk. You will never know the outcome unless you try.
Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.
I was listed as a “new + noteworthy” business on The Knot. It was a great honor for me to be recognized for my work in the Charleston Wedding scene.
What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
There were so many unique vendors present at the event. Getting to know people and clients is inevitably a great experience. Because of the wedding experience, I was able to make meaningful connections with local vendors and future clients.
