“I have the best seat in the house. I love the feeling of being up in the air, and in a moment of pause, catch the smiling faces from below.” Everyone hopes they have the best spot in the room when making memories at a wedding, but Aerialist Laura has an actual birds eye view from the sky. Her dazzling twirls and moves sure do keep the whole crowd wowed, and make for a beautiful and unique addition to a wedding reception or special event! Working with Laura at The Big Fake Wedding Minneapolis-St.Paul was certainly a once in a lifetime experience, and we’re thrilled to share more about her today in our Vendor Highlight.

Tell us a little bit about your story.
I am an aerial artist based out of Minneapolis, Mn, specializing in cirque-style aerial entertainment such as tissu (or silks), tight wire, lyra (aerial hoop) and partner acrobatics. My lifelong training, competition and performance experience spans the circus arts as well as dance, gymnastics and cheer.
I began my aerial training at Hollywood Aerial Arts, but have been based out of Xelias Aerial Arts in NE Minneapolis since 2010. I perform as a solo artist in MN and beyond, and also perform with Xelias’ professional performance company. I am a lifelong student and often travel to train with other amazing performers in Chicago, New York and LA. I love to perform in weddings, stage shows, corporate events, and other awesome gigs!
Who or what inspires you?
The coaches in my life inspire me. They have learned their skills from the generations before them, and it’s their passion for keeping the circus arts alive that allows us to continue the pursuit of beautiful and amazing feats. I am motivated by the accomplishments of these mentors and they give me the enthusiasm to keep growing and perfecting.
Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.
A recent highlight from my career was when I was performing alongside the Minnesota Orchestra during a run of holiday performances. There is nothing like being wrapped up in a silk 30 feet above the crowd with the booming sounds of the orchestra driving the choreography cues!
What is the best part of your job?
Hands down, I have the best seat in the house. I love the feeling of being up in the air, and in a moment of pause, catch the smiling faces from below. The energy in the room is contagious and addicting, and it’s why I love my job!
What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
The best part about the Big Fake Wedding was being able to collaborate with some of the most talented vendors in today’s wedding industry and create something really unique. It’s the best way to make aerial entertainment come to life in a themed event. The floral chandelier rig that I performed within was a partnership with several vendors. LaineMoire took on creating the floral chandelier, and we had Dynamic Drapery and Lighting help light up the entire rig, making it feel like a connected piece within the event atmosphere. The best ideas are truly brought to life when many minds come together! Playing up in that floral chandelier was so much fun and matched the vibe of the dance floor. I never wanted to come down!
