Tatiana, the out-of-the-box thinker behind White Elephant, is inspired by her travels, time periods in history, her favorite movies, and avant garde fashion – and brings these components into her designs in the most unique ways. It also doesn’t hurt that Tatiana and her husband, Josh, are sweet as can be. We absolutely loved getting to work with Tatiana and Josh at our fifth New York City event, and can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

Who/what inspires you?
Once I get hooked on an idea or an inspiration, I see it through to the end. I’m often inspired by places I’ve visited along my travels, time periods in history, my favorite movies, and avant garde fashion. I absolutely have a penchant for fantasy and frills, so directors such as Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet) and Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland, Big Fish), and designers such as the late, great Alexander McQueen and ever-the-romantic Valentino Garavani constantly inspire me. My favorite cities, Charleston, Paris, Rome, and New York, are always finding their way into my designs as well.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of the job is seeing how happy our clients are on their big day. My husband Josh and I had our fair share of meltdowns and mishaps the day of our wedding, so we know how to minimize stress and manage the unexpected. I love getting to know a couple and understanding their vision. We always deliver – regardless of budget – and hearing “It’s exactly what we wanted!” is our greatest reward.
What advice would you give to aspiring small business owners?
I would tell an aspiring small business owner to go for it – and don’t think “small.” When I first started, I was amazed at how many planners and designers there are in the field. Good thing I’m pretty fearless and never felt intimidated by another person’s years of experience or client list, etc. I had grand ideas and worked hard to achieve them. For anyone looking to begin their career, the sky is the limit! Take risks, ask questions, and don’t ever fear rejection!
What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
The entire experience was exciting and exhilarating! From meeting participating vendors to admiring all the talent, it was a truly enjoyable process. The best part, however, is that the message spread by The Big Fake Wedding is positive and good for the soul! The entire team behind The Big Fake Wedding is so encouraging, nurturing, and supportive. They truly believe in each vendor and in turn, the vendors become encouraging of fellow professionals. It’s one big love fest! Everyone leaves feeling fulfilled, happy, and a bit more confident in their own abilities.
