Almost better than the idea itself is the fact that Jessica forms such a meaningful relationship with each couple and truly enjoys the process of turning their love story into beautiful music. Tell us a little bit about the story of MelodyWed.
The idea for MelodyWed Custom Love Songs was bred from a songwriter’s brain inspired by a custom wedding soundtrack! In 2008, founder Jessica Lindsay was invited to sing at a wedding where the entire musical repertoire was prepared by the groom. She started making connections: “I am a creative songwriter. So many couples don’t have a special song. I could write and record a song based on their unique relationship, then they could use it for their wedding first dance. They might even pay me for it. Eureka!” A fifty-page business plan, blood, sweat, and a few tears/years later, MelodyWed was born!
Who or what inspires you?
Okay, can we get real here? Taylor Swift. She is a serious songwriting powerhouse. Those catchy melodies and clever lyrics inspire me to no end! Not to mention almost every song she puts out is a hit.
Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.
The first time I was invited to attend a client’s wedding and watch them sway to the custom song I had written for them blew me away. To have gotten to know them so intimately through the MelodyWed process, then to see them commit their lives to each other, and to witness them seal it all with an emotional, meaningful dance to their Melody. The pinnacle for me as the MelodyWriter is when I get to see the newlyweds mouthing the words of their custom love song to each other… All the feels.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the STORIES! I get to hear all kinds of melty meet-cutes, adorable anecdotes, and witty one-liners (that was alliteration too – think about it) and then turn them into a SONG! I seriously cannot think of anything more fun.
What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
The Big Fake Wedding allows the emotion of a custom love song to be felt by all the guests FOR COMPLETE STRANGERS. The first dance set to a custom love song for the model couple provides a window into their real life relationship and adds a depth of meaning to the ceremony and reception for all attendees. As a vendor, it’s a unique way to display my skills, a wonderful way to connect with other wedding industry professionals, and a sweet opportunity to interface with engaged couples!
