Kylee and Jared met at youth group in central Pennsylvania when she was 13 and he was 16. They were friends for nine years as Jared surreptitiously let her know that he was interested in more than just friends – it just took her four years to figure it out! They started dating in July 2012, were engaged in March 2013, and married in August 2013 in PA. They now live in Baltimore and the rest is history!

Jared spent a lot of time and effort on my engagement ring without my knowledge. He designed it using three metals (white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold). When he proposed at night on a pier in the inner harbor, he told me he loved me for the first time. Earlier in our relationship he had told me that he wouldn’t say those words until he had a promise to back them up. He then pulled out my ring and explained that while he didn’t care about jewelry, he liked metaphors (typical guy). So his metaphor explained that the white gold represented God in our marriage, the rose gold represented me, and the yellow gold represented him. The three metals intertwine like a rope and meet under the diamond which represents the covenant of our marriage. Naturally the theme of our wedding was Ecclesiastes 4:12 “A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”
Also, during his proposal he presented me with a journal. He had started writing to me before we were even dating. My husband certainly isn’t sappy, so it reads more comically than anything else. However, he did keep many ticket stubs and other things from when we were dating and at the end when he wrote that that night he would ask me to be his wife, I definitely teared up.
I kept that journal until our wedding day when his best man gave it back to him with a note from his soon-to-be wife. I think I have a long way to go before I can top his proposal – but that doesn’t mean I’ll ever stop trying! We’ve desired that our marriage be a testimony, an encouragement, as well as an adventure.
