Meet Kristin Van Hauen, of Bourbon + Lace Events, our day-of coordinator for The Big Fake Wedding Houston!  She has an eye for design and detail is second to none and by far one of her best traits, followed by her organization skills. This has been the backbone of her success in the world of creating and executing events from a small cocktail party to an extravagant event. Calm under pressure and sensitive to the needs of her clients and vendors, makes her a joy to work with. When she is not telling the stories of her clients through the details you can find her spending time with her husband Roger, and son Brandon. Cheering from the sidelines at soccer matches to quiet time with her beautiful horses.

We invited Kristin to take over the blog today to share some tips on incorporating your unique style into your wedding day!

Three Key Ingredients to Style Your Wedding Day

You have dreamed about this day forever, you have found the perfect partner for your life. Now to create a day that brings to life your dream day while incorporating the man of your dreams. While the internet has made it easy to get ideas for your day, make sure you are creating a day that is true to you and your fiancé. There are 3 key ingredients into bringing to life your day.

Make it Personal

How do you and your fiancé spend your free time, did you meet at the dog park? Are you book worms that love to hang at the local bookstore and coffee shop? Do you travel every chance you get? Whatever it is that you do, bring a touch of that to your day. I’m not saying to create a whole theme on this, just to bring in some personal bits- it tells the story of who you are as a couple. For the dog lovers, how about custom dog biscuits for your favors- with tags on from your Fido or a custom drink from the bar incorporating your dog’s name. Want to incorporate books, how about as table numbers or using them in the décor to add that special touch. The key is to bring it in subtly with the details, creating that romantic day you have always dreamed of.

Pick Colors that Make you Happy

What is your favorite color, what makes you smile and think happy thoughts? Is it a bright color, don’t be afraid to use colors. So many of our favorite romantic venues are a perfect backdrop to bring to life with the details. Sure you can use those soft romantic colors: blush, ivory and grey. How about adding that pop of color. Again, not as a complete theme, but as an accent color. Do you swoon over the fall colors of orange, yellow and burgundy? How about those bright summer colors of teal, pink and orange. This will help you decide in what season you should be looking at getting married. A fun way to get ideas for your color scheme is with your fiancé, each of you write down your top 5 colors, put them into a bowl and pull out the colors in combos of three, write down your results and see what speaks to you both. Then have fun pulling those colors into your day through the flowers, linens and those personal touches.

Location, Location, Location

So many times we meet with a bride that has booked a venue that they want to change everything, add draping to cover up the walls or change the feel of the venue all together. It is like looking for your true love, you will know when you find it. Don’t be in a hurry to say yes to the venue, make sure you are in love with the space as you see it and not thinking that it will be perfect, if we change this and that. With the perfect location to start, you will have more fun and money to bring to life the day you have been dreaming about for all these years with the details.

Enjoy your planning process and remember, it the first day of the rest of your lives. Incorporate things that tell your love story and share in the uniqueness of you as a couple.
