This unique alternative to fresh flowers wasn’t recently featured at The Big Fake Wedding Lexington. We’re excited to hear more from Ashley in her very own Vendor Highlight!

Tell us a little bit about the story of PaperHeartBlooms.
PaperHeartBlooms started when I was planning my own wedding. I had dreams of peonies everywhere; however, in October peonies are very out of season and were very out of our budget, so I had to get creative. I decided to try and make my own. I read a tutorial, made my first paper flower and knew I could improve upon it. And so over a few months I created some really great hand-dyed paper flowers that I couldn’t wait to incorporate into my wedding. After the wedding, interest continued to grow in my flowers, and I decided to go ahead and launch my business!
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is witnessing the bride’s reaction to seeing her completed flowers for the first time. I love it! They’re always so excited, and still can’t believe they’re made of paper. And of course seeing the photos after the wedding of the brides and their beautiful custom paper flowers, knowing they’ll be able to cherish these flowers for years to come.
What advice would you give to aspiring small business owners?
Be patient. Huge business success rarely occurs overnight. In the beginning we all have big dreams, and there’s no reason why you can’t achieve them! But take time to make well-informed steps in the beginning and it’ll set you up for a promising future. Being a small business owner is so rewarding- go for it!
Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.
The most pivotal moment in my career so far was when Alex & Ani jewelry approached me to create flowers for 65 of their stores for their Valentine’s Day store decor. I couldn’t believe it! It was a huge undertaking, but was an amazing experience that taught me so much.
