They had us at donuts, but they stole our hearts at “donut sundaes.” Karissa of Simply Done Donuts is changing the dessert game one sweet tooth at a time, and we’re not at all mad about it. Simply Done Donuts specializes in the donut version of an ice cream sundae – think freshly baked donut minis, toppings, sauces, and even a scoop of ice cream! Hungry yet? It was such a treat (get it?) getting to work with Karissa at The Big Fake Wedding Atlanta, and we can’t wait to see what she creates next.

“Simply Done is one of the most unique vendors in the wedding industry. When I first met them I was excited about their product, but what would make me want to book them are the personalities of the owners! Total gems.” – The Big Fake Wedding Atlanta Team

Tell us a little bit about the story of Simply Done Donuts.
Well, I really should have known I would be doing something with donuts a lot sooner. The reason I say that is I LOVE LOVE LOVE donuts. In fact, my very first word as a child was ‘donut’ and no that is not a lie – ask my mom! I grew up eating at a mom-and-pop donut shop occasionally back in Texas. Then when we moved to Atlanta 4 years ago I noticed there really is only Dunkin and they don’t “do” donuts. My dream is to one day open up a donut shop (or two) to create memories for others like it was done for me.

What’s your favorite “sundae” flavor and why?
I would have to say “Smorelicious.” I am not a big marshmallow fan but this donut melts in your mouth. The melody of chocolate, creamy marshmallow, and powdered sugar with graham cracker makes your mouth drop. It is donutee delicious! This year we are even offering the option to put a scoop of ice cream on top. I can’t wait to see what people think!

Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.
January last year. I was at a moment in my life when I needed a change from corporate world and jumped into DONUTS! I knew I was invested when I purchased my donut machine just a few weeks later which cost $5000 – used! I then quickly got a trailer built, equipment purchased, and worked on building a solid product. I still work my corporate job but outside of it I get to work on something I LOVE – with the hopes of quitting my desk job in the near future 🙂

What is the “sweetest” part of your job?
Goodness, this is a hard one. I absolutely love the creative aspects of this job. From designing shirts to brand myself, crafting other food products for the truck, to working on gift items the juices are always flowing. It is fun to see thoughts come to reality! Another “sweet” part to this job is the private events. I say this because I truly enjoy meeting new people and designing a great dessert/breakfast option for their event. It means the world to know you put a smile on their face and they loved what you worked so hard on.

What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
Man, this event was amazeballs! I will have to say it probably was working with the staff – no lie. Every moment along the way they held my hand, answered all my questions, and set me up for success on the day of! These are people I could hang out regularly with, and making friends is my passion. I hope to work with every single one of them in the future.
