This sweet shop creates the most Instagram/Pinterest-worthy desserts that, if you can believe it, taste even better than they look. Like, so delicious that our Phoenix team has seriously considered getting some treats shipped across the country (no really). As if it could get any better, the brains behind the operation, Andrea, is fun to work with, humble, and just plain wonderful. Shall we go on, or do you just want to see for yourself? Tell us a little bit about the story of A Bakeshop.
Raised in an Italian family, I always loved to bake. I grew up learning Italian desserts from my grandmother and spent many years making desserts at my parent’s authentic Italian restaurant in Sun City, Dominic’s. In 2008, I dove head first into the bakery business with All Caked Up, specializing in custom wedding cakes, party cakes, cupcakes, and anything else that can satisfy a mean sweet tooth. As business grew and word spread, my corner in the restaurant’s kitchen proved to be too small. Summer of 2014 will forever be engrained in my heart as the time I ventured out on my own and opened my first bakery, a Bakeshop!!
What is the best part of your job (other than sampling your desserts)?
The best part of my job is, well I have 2 favorites!! I love coming up with new, creative, fun designs for desserts and cakes! Putting smiles on peoples faces is extremely satisfying! The other is employing people and knowing that they love coming to work everyday!
Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.
A highlight in my career is we are currently looking to expand a Bakeshop because we are out growing our current space! Woo Woo!!
What advice would you give to aspiring small business owners?
The best advice I can give to an aspiring small business owner is it’s not easy, but living out your dream is the most amazing feeling you can give yourself. There will be struggles that you have to look at as learning and growth experiences rather than let them knock you down.
What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
My favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding was seeing fellow creatives come together to create such a fun, energetic space for people to smile and have a good time together!
