Tell us a little bit about the story of Celebrating Love by Marcie.
To be honest “Celebrating Love by Marcie” actually started as “Celebrating Moments by Marcie” over 5 years ago when I swore I was not going to do weddings! (We make plans and God laughs.) I was thinking I just wanted to do children’s parties, birthdays, baby and bridal showers… I was asked though by a couple friends to do their weddings and I fell in love with “celebrating love.” 20 weddings later I can TRULY say I love my job. It has been amazing to see how it has grown over the past several years and how I continue to refine the heart and brand of my business.
My mission is to work with couples who want to celebrate their love though timeless and meaningful weddings full of lovely details and joy, to create a memory and a marriage to last a lifetime.
Who or what inspires you?
Nature inspires me a lot. I just love an organic feeling and at times it’s crazy how one little element can inspire a whole design concept. It could be something from a Farmer’s Market stand, the patina on an old piece of wood or the design and texture of a fabric.
I also am so inspired by many friends I have met in the industry who have hearts of gold. They are giving, supportive and honest. They remind me to keep my heart right and focused on the true meaning of my business; to believe in myself and not give up.
What advice would you give to aspiring small business owners?
That leads into my advice to aspiring small business owners. Surround yourself with awesome people. You can NOT do this alone. It isn’t all glamour and goosebumps! The hours and days can be VERY long, there are many disappointments and there can definitely be times of frustration. Without my support system I know I would not be where I am now. It’s so easy to get sucked into comparison and also to get discouraged sometimes. You truly need to connect with other creative entrepreneurs in the wedding industry. We are truly a rare breed! Last, take baby steps and with each one grow. Growth and success don’t come overnight and we couldn’t handle it if it did!
What is the best part of your job?
Sigh… the best part of my job is hands down the moment I live for! That moment when you see all the pieces of the design vision come together to create a celebration that reflects my precious couple’s style, love story and then, their reactions! That moment is what makes all the long hours worth it.
Also, my other favorite moment is when they see each other for the very first time. I always watch the groom’s face. It’s priceless. The joy and excitement of the day, their smiles, the guests having a wonderful time and leaving with their hearts full… then the hugs and appreciation at the end of it all. There is no greater joy than to celebrate the joy of true love and the joining of two hearts!
What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
I LOVED the sense of community The Big Fake Wedding creates and inspires among the vendors. I truly feel it added a whole other layer to the experience. Community in our industry is so important. I also love that the format of this event is so different from other bridal shows. It’s fresh and fun! The main thing that I love though is that it reminds couples to also focus on not just preparing for their wedding, but for their marriage. It helps them keep their hearts balanced, so to speak. Let’s be honest, weddings can be stressful – and The Big Fake Wedding, just like I try to do with my business, helps us keep our focus and enjoy and savor the experience.
