Okay, can y’all keep a secret? Usually our staff refrains from trying the food at our events to save it for the guests, but at The Big Fake Wedding Charlotte, we made a small exception. Everyone was buzzing about how delicious the cupcakes were, so of course we had to bend the rules and try them for ourselves. Spoiler alert: our guests were right. The Cupcake Bar from Iced Cupcakes was not only scrumptious, but so much fun as well. We were able to pick our own toppings, and they had everything from sprinkles to cotton candy! It was so sweet (see what we did there?) getting to work with Iced Cupcakes at our second Charlotte event, and we’re so excited to share more about them in today’s Vendor Highlight.

Tell us a little bit about the story behind Iced Cupcakes.
Early in 2013, I found myself without a job and no drive to return to the type of work I’d been doing for the previous 10 years. My former business partner and I starting the cupcake business a year or so before as a part time gig. So, it was a natural progression to make the business my full-time thing and grow it from a delivery business to a food truck to a brick & mortar location. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how ya look at it, my business partner started a family and no longer had spare time for cupcaking so I’ve been a one-woman show for quite some time now.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of our job is creating new flavor combinations and new lines of cupcakes with unique ingredients. It’s fun when our customers are skeptical at first about one of our wacky flavors and after they try it, they’re hooked. It’s cute to watch their faces light up when they take the first bite.

What advice would you give to aspiring small business owners?
Concentrate on the part your love and hire people qualified to do the rest (like, the accounting part!!)
What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
We loved interacting with all of the guests. Our Cupcake Bar definitely helped us engage and answer questions along the way. The guests seemed intrigued with our setup and we had a great time!
