Describe Maiden Flower Crowns in five words or less.
Bespoke crowns with real flowers.
Who or what inspires you?
Natural beauty. We love to take inspiration from nature, whether it is from color, shape, or texture. Nothing makes us happier than when people put on one of our crowns and feel like the best version of themselves. Even if we do the most beautiful work and use the most exotic flowers, our clients are the ones that bring our work to life. Lately, we’ve been particularly inspired by Australian weddings and designers – they’re so effortless, the dresses are something you can breathe and move in and the locations offer the best of what nature provides.
Describe the ideal bride to work with.
It’s definitely twofold. First, a bride who trusts our aesthetic and our recommendations. We love inspiration photos and we want to fulfill our brides’ visions, but we only work in fresh flowers and are bound by the constraints of seasonality and hardiness. Second, we love a bride who has enough confidence to just go with it. Your wedding should have some surprises! Heels getting stuck in mud? Kick them off. Can’t get peonies in January? Let us find you something better.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
To not be afraid to fail. When we first started, we would try everything, even just picking up vines out of the garden or grabbing flowers on a run. A few months after we started, we had a crown to make for a bridal shower. We procured gorgeous yellow and pink flowers and wanted to make it feel really tropical. We decided to use bamboo leaves with the flowers, so we got a bunch for the following morning. By then, all of the leaves had rolled and shriveled up and we couldn’t use any of them! So it was a “back to the drawing board” situation and the crown turned out beautifully regardless. Most importantly, our bride-to-be loved it and felt beautiful wearing it. Even if you do fail, you’ll learn so much along the way. And sometimes, accidents become happy accidents.
What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
We loved interacting directly with our potential clients. We brought fresh flower crowns for everyone to try on and loved seeing our brides’ faces light up when they put one on. You might not consider yourself a boho bride, but flower crowns work so well with a ton of aesthetics and look absolutely beautiful no matter what your complexion, hair, size, style, and so on might be. We loved seeing people realize, “oh, this could be for me!”
