Jessica of Fine and Fleurie has been a part of the last three Atlanta NotWeddings, and she has built herself a little family of wedding vendors in the process. As a creator of beautiful things to make brides feel beautiful, we were all shocked to hear that Jessica never had the “bride” experience herself. Six years and two kids ago, Jessica and Vito got married at the courthouse, and right around their six-year-anniversary, her little wedding vendor family threw her a wedding. Enjoy!

Describe your original wedding.
Our original “wedding” was simple and the most important thing at the time: basically free. It only cost us the marriage license fee and a J. Crew sun dress from the sale rack! We were young and in love, so that’s all that really mattered to us.

How was the renewal different?
The renewal was incredibly emotional, so much more than I even expected. I think for most people their wedding day is a time to look forward to all the life you have ahead of them. For us, the renewal was a time to celebrate how far we’ve come, all we’ve accomplished and re-commit to the journey still ahead.

What was the most emotional part? The funniest?
Goodness, it was all so emotional. I think the vows were the moment I really felt it the most though; Pastor Bill’s words were so powerful. With all of the excitement of the day, this was the first moment I had a chance to be still and just listen. The funniest part was definitely when the nearby train happened to pass by at the exact moment I was supposed to walk down the isle, impossibly loud horn blowing and all. The timing couldn’t have been any more spot-on than if it was planned for a movie.

What was it like to be a bride?
Being a bride is a surreal moment. Most women dream of that exact moment so many times. So to be in the moment, in the gown, with so many special people in one room can only be described as surreal.

Now that you’re a not-so-newlywed, what’s your best piece of marital advice?
Remember to laugh and be silly together. There are so many moments in married life when frustration, fear or selfishness could take over, so being able to find humor in these situations is essential.
