“I have defined my own version of what a Day-of Coordinator should be, and it begins with a commitment to the bride’s vision and the single purpose of bringing it to fruition.” Kristen J. Scott, Day-of Wedding Coordinator, is the total package. She has the ability to get things done and get them done right, but at the same time is sweet as can be. This incredible combination creates a recipe for perfection that yields flawless events, every time. It was a pleasure getting to know (and love!) Kristen at the third Athens NotWedding, and we are proud to introduce her as our Vendor of the Week.

“Kristen is the best! She has the heart and love of a mother and friend, but the work ethic of a killer boss lady. She will do what you need, when you need it, and in the best way that it could be done. What more could you want in a Day-of Coordinator? LOVE her!”

What is the best part of your job?
Although my job is all about spreadsheets, itineraries, and budgets, the work is still very personal. Not only do I get to share the best day most people ever have, but I get to see people at their best. What could be better than sharing a handkerchief with a tearful mom or helping a nervous dad with his toast? And pay no mind to the bridezilla images you see on TV. My brides are 100% fabulous!

Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.
There was a huge leap of faith when I left a full-time job to pursue day-of wedding coordination. The concept was fairly new to the industry and loosely defined; yet I was confident that the need was there. I have defined my own version of what a Day-of Coordinator should be, and it begins with a commitment to the bride’s vision and the single purpose of bringing it to fruition. My pivotal moment? The day I turned away my first client because I was already booked. I was like, “Wow. I never say that coming!”

Who or what inspires you?
Inspiration comes from the soul, and I’m always amazed at what touches my soul. But motivation — that is another thing. People motivate me. The vendors with whom I work are incredibly creative and a true source of energy. I’ve worked throughout the southeast with some of the best artists — musicians, designers, caterers, bakers, and photographers. A great vendor is worth their weight in gold and I adore watching them create their magic on a couple’s wedding day.

What advice would you give to aspiring small business owners?
I am a “stay-in-your-lane” kind of person. I would encourage new small business owners to know their strengths, work with passion, and do what you do exceptionally well. Don’t try to be everything to everybody. When you are starting out, there is a temptation to take on any client that comes along but this does not necessarily serve you well. Know your value, know your strengths, and stay in your lane!

What is your favorite part of The NotWedding experience?
Without question, my favorite part of The NotWedding experience would be when the couple renews their vows. I hold the institution of marriage in very high regard and their expressions of love and commitment always give me goosebumps. Every single time. Oh yes, and the desserts. I adore the desserts!
