“What really makes my heart sing is when it is obvious that we were able to make someone else feel good because of doing business with us!” Equally sweet and talented, Holly of Unique and Chic Event Rentals and Design will have you smitten with both her and her small business just seconds after meeting her. Unique and Chic Event Rentals and Design provides both vintage and rustic items as well more elegant and modern items for your wedding or event, and the inventory will blow your mind. It was truly a joy working with Holly and her team at The Big Fake Wedding Seattle, and we’re so excited to share more about her business in today’s Vendor Highlight.

“Holly took the inspiration board and provided the most incredible take on Fair Isle. She knew what we needed, knew what would look fantastic and worked really hard until the very end to make sure it was perfect! This company is one I would recommend to everyone!”

Tell us a little bit about the story of Unique & Chic Event Rentals and Design
Our story probably starts pretty similarly to other vintage and rustic rental companies. I started planning for my own wedding about 5 1/2 years ago and could not find unique items that I could rent. So the seed was planted realizing that I was probably not the only bride out there looking for something different than the “typical” wedding rental items. Fast forward about 4 years, 2 moves and a baby; I started putting a plan together to get the business off the ground. My mom, Gayle, and I started to build our inventory based on items we loved and thought brides and grooms would love and want to incorporate into their weddings. We tend to lean more towards vintage and rustic items but have also been building our inventory of more elegant and modern items. We have been blown away by the excitement and support we have received from everyone this past year and can’t wait to continue to grow and expand our business. We just moved into our new showroom and look forward to using it as a place of inspiration for brides, grooms and our wedding industry friends.

What is the best part of your job?
I love this question! The best part of our job is when we know that we were able to make someone’s day better! That may be because we have the items they have been looking for and haven’t found anywhere else or because we work to be flexible with people for appointments, deliveries and pickups/drop-offs. Of course I love helping people make their event beautiful as well, that is a given! But what really makes my heart sing is when it is obvious that we were able to make someone else feel good because of doing business with us!

Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.
Gosh, since we really just got this business up and running at the beginning of this year, I think we’ve hit a pivotal moment every month it seems! If I have to pick one, I would actually have to say it was finding out that The Big Fake Wedding had chosen us for the Seattle event! I applied as soon as I learned about the event coming to Seattle; I figured… you won’t know until you try, right? In the meantime I followed The Big Fake Wedding on social media and the website and just seeing all the amazing vendors you have worked with across so many states made me feel very honored when we found out that you thought we would be a good fit for the first Seattle event. This definitely boosted our confidence in what we were doing and made us feel we are on the right path. After participating in the Seattle event we felt like it was a great success thanks to so many compliments by other well respected wedding professionals and the wonderful guests we had the pleasure of meeting. That evening was definitely a highlight that I think will be hard to top!

What advice would you give to aspiring small business owners?
Don’t let your fear hold you back!!! And don’t give up just because it gets hard. You are going to get scared, nervous, stressed and probably a lot of other emotions while you are trying to pave your own path. I would also say try to be as organized as possible. This is something I am still working on, haha! And lastly, you may be pleasantly surprised by how incredibly helpful and caring others in the wedding and events industry are. We have met so many great people, especially other women business owners who are full of advice and support. My advice is to take in as much advice and support as you can! I hope to be in a position to help others in the future!

What is your favorite part of The Big Fake Wedding experience?
I loved having the chance to work with so many amazingly talented people for The Big Fake Wedding. I think my favorite part was seeing how it all came together the hour before it was show time! It was so cool to see how everyone interpreted the inspiration board and the amazing designs that resulted from it. I especially loved that we were able to collaborate with several of the other vendors and they incorporated some of our pieces into their beautiful designs.
