It started as a little girl when her grandmother taught her how to sew, and now there’s no telling how far Desireé can reach. Desireé Marie Design creates custom made, vintage-inspired gowns that bring a whole new meaning to one-of-a-kind. Desireé built her business on the idea of making unique, handmade clothing for fashionable women, encouraging them to have fun and take risks with their clothing. What’s better than that?! It was such a treat getting to work with this talented gal at The Big Fake Wedding Austin, and we’re so excited to share more about her below!

“The attention to detail in both of Desiree’s dresses was exquisite. She is such an artist, and to see her work in person was a treat!”

Tell us a little bit about the story of Desiree Marie Design.
I was first introduced to sewing by my grandma at a young age. She would make us clothes, and taught us how to quilt. I graduated in 2011 from International Academy of Design and Tech with a BFA in Fashion Design and Merchandising, and started my business that year. I built my business on the idea of always creating unique, handmade clothing for fashionable women.

Who or what inspires you?
I love themes, having a clear inspiration before creating anything. I’m always inspired by vintage, and my favorite is mid century. I’m also very inspired by nature, I’ve had collections inspired by the sea, space, and coming soon, the forest.

Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.
When I decided to do mainly bridal design. Which was after I got published in Grace Ormonde Wedding Style Magazine.

What advice would you give to aspiring small business owners?
Always go back and reflect on why you started your business, and keep building on it.
