He thinks their first date was at a coffee shop, she thinks it was getting ice cream as an appetizer (they’ll explain) — but one thing Lindsay and Scott will always agree on is their love for one another. After these college sweethearts began dating, they were soon tested with a long distance relationship. They passed this test with flying colors, as they were married within the year — who says distance has to be hard? Not these two!

We are so excited to celebrate Lindsay and Scott as they renew their vows at The Big Fake Wedding Orlando on Wednesday night at the Orlando Science Center! We hope that you will join us for the party – grab a ticket here.

We met as freshman at Furman University and were friends for years, but did not start dating until the last semester of our senior year. After college, we each moved back to our respective homes (NC for me, Orlando, FL for him) but continued to date long distance. However, the distance couldn’t keep us a part and within a year we were married.

To this day, we are still in disagreement over what our first date actually was! He thinks it was the first time he causally asked me to get coffee (which ended up being five hours long to the point where the coffee house owners had to kick us out because they were closing). I think it’s the first time he used the actual “d” word. He picked me up and then had me write all my favorite restaurants on strips of paper and put them in a hat. I drew one out of the hat each for appetizer, dinner, and dessert. I ended up picking an ice cream place first and it’s still the best appetizer I ever had 🙂 After restaurant hopping for our meal, Scott took me to a bookstore and we read our favorite children’s stories to each other.

Scott and I got married at 23 and had no clue what marriage was at the time but we knew we loved each other and wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. Four and a half years later that is still true but our love for each other is much deeper. We have learned that marriage is messy and laying down your life for another is no joke! However, we are both committed to growing individually and thus growing as a couple and we have seen God do some pretty remarkable things in our lives over the past few years. We are by no means perfect, but we are so excited and encouraged to see what is in store for us and are thankful for the opportunity to renew our vows!
