How many people can say they have custom art created from their wedding vows hung in their home? There really is something so special about knowing the names, faces and stories behind the art we love to have displayed around our homes. With a piece that’s already so beautiful and well made, it doesn’t seem possible to love it more- but then you get to know the wonderful couple behind the business! You learn about the passion, time and creativity that’s put into each piece and that’s what makes it even more special. Today we’re highlighting one of our all-star alumni vendors, The Standard Canvas, who bases their business around the idea that you want to keep the sacred vows you made to one another on display as a constant reminder of your love for one another. Keep reading to learn more about these hand-made canvases and the dynamic duo behind the art.

We have absolutely loved having these two at TWELVE of our events! For the rest of the year, they are generously gifting all of our featured couples with a custom vow canvas! We are thankful to know them and proudly wave their flag.

Tell us a little bit about The Standard Canvas

Remember those sacred words that you said to each other on your wedding day? Sweet promises that paved the way to you now being called husband and wife. Do you know where your wedding vows are now? It is common for the wedding vows to be read only once – at the wedding ceremony. After that, they are safely tucked away in a box of miscellaneous wedding memories and rarely looked at again. Wouldn’t it be nice to display them somehow? At The Standard Canvas, we make it super easy to do just that. Your wedding vows can now be displayed in your home sweet home – acting as a daily reminder of the promises you made to each other. We love working one-on-one with our customers to create fully customized wedding vow art.

What is the best part of your job?

It has been so awesome to watch our little business idea grow and even flourish over the past few years. For so long, we dreamed of starting our own businesses, and by God’s grace, it is now a reality. We love being our own boss and having the flexibility to direct our company as we see fit. We love the process of bringing people’s ideas to life and the thrill of happy customers. Being able to whistle while we work, play music as loud as we’d like, take dance breaks, and even respond to emails in our pajamas – it’s pretty awesome!

Describe a highlight or pivotal moment in your career.

It’s hard to pinpoint just one “aha” moment that’s been pivotal to the success of The Standard Canvas. We are constantly trying new ideas and learning what works and what doesn’t. One goal that we strive for is continual improvement of our processes that results in increased product quality and customer service. Our motto for our business endeavors that we’ve discovered over time is that patience, continued effort, and God’s grace is the key to success. In other words if we allow time to run it’s course and not act hastily in making unwise and rushed decisions, and we put in persistent effort by making the right decisions or small changes to correct course every day, then God’s favor will show up in accomplishing our plans and making our dreams a reality. Never settling for the status quo, but always pushing forward, would best describe our endeavors.

How do you do it all and do it so well?

See question 3. Just kidding 🙂 Although question 3 certainly applies but let’s add to it. By not doing it all and instead focusing on what we do best allows us to do what we do very well. But in all that we do, keeping the right mindset is key. Organizing tasks and focusing in on them one at a time rather than trying to multitask by jumping back and forth from one thing to another is extremely important. Multitasking may “seem” like we’re getting more done, but from our experience it simply wastes more energy, produces more stress, and less actually gets accomplished. Narrow, devoted focus on the task at hand produces far better results and gives us greater satisfaction in the end.

Describe a typical day in your life.

We wake up a little after the sun 😉 and start our day with gratitude towards God. “What are we grateful for, what can we give thanks about?” We ask ourselves. There’s no better way to start the day than expressing our gratitude for all the small things that can easily be overlooked and taken for granted. This one simple routine makes a huge difference in our day. Taking control of our thoughts and deciding that happiness and togetherness sets the pace of the day. Then usually we do a morning workout and fuel our bodies with a nutrient dense smoothie for breakfast. Then it is time to work. We tackle emails and orders. Short breaks here and there to take in the fresh air and sunshine and rain, embracing each and every day. We look for opportunities to grow our businesses, and try implementing those ideas if we think they’ll be helpful or correct things that aren’t working out as well as we had hoped. Next, we’ll have our big delicious salads for lunch and sometimes lay out on our back porch to catch the sun if time allows. Then it’s back to work a few more hours. In the evenings we make it a point to fit in an hour of walking around our neighborhood. Wine down for dinner 🙂 relax a little bit, watch a favorite TV episode, read a little bit and sometimes do a little more research on different business ideas. Evenings tend to be more spontaneous and we’re always open for a good adventure.
