This week’s Vendor of the Week is Melissa Bloomfield of Pretty Swell Parties. She was our wonderful day-of coordinator for The 7th Atlanta NotWedding, and we had a great experience getting to know her and trusting her with the details of OUR special day. Read on, and see why you should trust her with yours!

What is the best part about your job?

There are just so many “best” parts of being a wedding planner! I definitely love getting to know my clients, meeting their families, and being a part of a really personal process. I tend to get pretty attached to the couples I work with!

Also, I really just love planning in general–thinking through every detail and every possible pitfall and coming up with solutions and back up plans. The day of the wedding is also a real rush. There are always little mini-emergencies that come up, and I work really hard to fix whatever needs fixing without the bride and groom noticing a thing– it really keeps me on my toes!

List three of your favorite small businesses.

The Mercantile is a small specialty food and wine shop in my neighborhood, and all of their food is made from scratch and delicious. Also, the owner, Janea, knows a ton about wine and hand picks really great, well-priced bottles. Definitely worth a stop in for lunch or prepared meal for dinner!

Calliespondence. Gorgeous custom paper products. Callie designed my logo and some of my marketing pieces, which I love. She does beautiful work!

King of Pops. I just love how they took something so simple–like a popsicle–and turned it into a local phenomenon!  And what brilliant marketing–everyone in Atlanta (including my 3-year-old daughter) instantly recognizes that rainbow umbrella.

Is there an app or computer program that you couldn’t live without?

Google calenders! I put every single appointment and deadline into my calender. My phone is constantly going off with daily reminders, but it’s the only way to keep everything straight.

List one good decision you’ve made in your business.

The very best decision I made was to narrow down my focus. When I first started my business, I was all over the place and wasn’t quite sure which direction things would go. I was hand-crafting decor, baking– you name it. I realized I needed to really stick with my strength, which is planning and coordination. I love doing whatever I can to make things easier for my clients! And the truth is, once I figured out exactly what I was offering, it was easier to market my business, and things really began to take off!

What has been your favorite part of The NotWedding experience?

I’m sure everyone says this, but I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone involved with the NotWedding. It really is about the relationships with the other vendors and the fun of collaborating on something really unique.
